Social distancing and recent shelter-in-place orders have made it difficult for food managers who need to certify or recertify to take the FPMC exam in person. Fortunately, in-person testing is not the only option.
StateFoodSafety offers an online food manager certification exam and online proctoring, which means managers can get their certification 100% online, without leaving their homes.
The solution: online proctoring
Online proctoring offers a solution for food managers to take the Food Protection Manager Certification Exam while still complying with social distancing guidelines.
It is completely secure and approved by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB). All exams are administered by ProctorU, which has proctored more than four million online exams worldwide.
How online proctoring works for the food manager exam
- Managers should select “Online” as the proctoring option when purchasing the food manager exam and training. Don’t forget to take the equipment test first to make sure you have everything you need!
- After completing the training, the manager will be asked to schedule a time for their exam. At their scheduled exam time, all they have to do is start the exam from their StateFoodSafety account and follow the instructions they receive to connect with ProctorU.
ProctorU monitors each examinee through the webcam and microphone on their computer. At the start of the exam, the proctor takes steps to verify the examinee’s identity and ensure their computer and room is secure. They also utilize eye tracking to ensure participants don’t cheat in any way.
After the exam is submitted it’s graded electronically, which means managers don’t have to wait long to see their score. In most cases, managers are able to get their official FPMC certificate on the same day they took the exam.
Please note that Chromebooks, phones, and tablets are currently not compatible devices for taking the exam with ProctorU.
Same food manager certification, same accreditation
StateFoodSafety’s online food manager training and exam is nationally accredited by ANAB, and is approved in most health department jurisdictions around the country.
Online proctoring provides the same food manager certification as any other form of exam proctoring with StateFoodSafety. In addition, StateFoodSafety’s exam is legally equivalent to all other ANAB-accredited manager exams.
We’re here to help
Our mission at StateFoodSafety is to help communities and businesses stay safe and compliant with food safety regulations. In the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, we hope to be a source of help for all that are affected.
Along with our online proctoring solution for food managers, we have many free resources available that provide information about how to stay safe and prevent the spread of disease.
We also launched a free course for charitable feeding volunteers. While this new course does not replace a food handlers card or a food manager certification, it does provide charitable feeding volunteers with training on crucial food safety principles.
