StateFoodSafety’s talented artist Matt Watts has just finished working on an e-book with Marcie Witham. The book, The Wheat-Free Princess, is a fun and useful book that explains gluten allergies to children.
When Marcie Witham’s daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease a few years ago, she searched all over for a children’s book on the disease but couldn’t find anything. Somewhat discouraged, she decided to connect with Matt to create a book that explains gluten allergies to children. Very soon after they started working on the book, Matt’s own two-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a gluten allergy and two more of Marcie’s children were diagnosed with celiac disease.
The Wheat-Free Princess is a charming story about a little girl finding out that she has a gluten allergy; throughout the story, she learns how she can take care of her body to feel better. You can find the e-book on Amazon. Over the next few months, Matt and Marcie hope to raise enough money to publish a print version of the book. Eventually, they plan to create a children’s book for an older age group that explains more about celiac disease and the emotional impact it has on those who suffer from it.
To raise awareness and help other parents with teaching their children, Marcie and Matt maintain a Facebook page and a blog called the Gluten Free Ninjas.
Matt has been working at StateFoodSafety for about five years. He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in architecture. After working just a few years as a digital architect, Matt changed his career to illustration. That’s when he joined the team at StateFoodSafety. His illustrations greatly contribute to the quality of our courses.
