How We Started

Our parent company, AboveTraining Inc., was formed in 2005 when Franklin Lewis and Vernon Stout teamed up to create a learning management system especially for continuing education and certifications.

Drawing upon decades of experience in both print and digital publishing, our founders believed in providing “A Better Learning Experience®.”

To ensure the highest-quality courses, our product development team includes certified professionals in food safety. We also use the latest instructional design best practices in our training.

By partnering with regulatory agencies, we combined their subject expertise with our learning expertise to create programs that are both effective and enjoyable.

StateFoodSafety Division Created

Following Hurricane Katrina, our executives traveled to New Orleans to see what we could do for the hurricane victims. When we realized thousands of new workers needed food safety training to revitalize the restaurant industry, we went to work creating a program to help.

Following our experience in New Orleans, we began seeking partnerships with health departments throughout the United States to administer food handler card programs online — and StateFoodSafety was born.

As a friend to environmental health departments everywhere, we have partnered with more than 150 regulatory agencies to date. We customize our training programs to meet the statutes and regulations in each area, all while presenting the training in a fun and engaging way.

Our attention to meeting the needs of regulatory agencies and their public helped StateFoodSafety receive numerous Request for Proposal (RFP) contracts along the way. We are proud to be providers through the RFP process in locations throughout the United States.
